Safari Overview

Nyerere National Park (Selous Game Reserve) is one of the largest reserves in the world with a huge elephant population. It was named after Englishman Sir Frederick Selous, a famous big game hunter and early conservationist, who died here in 1917 fighting against the Germans. Good chances of seeing Wild Dogs here, and birdlife is prolific. We’ll start at 07:00 AM!

Safari Itinerary

Start at 5:30AM from the hotel or airport at Dar Es Salaam and drive to Nyerere National Park formally Selous Game Reserve (3-4hours). The day will be spent on game viewing in the Game Reserve
The safari guide will point out rare species of animals like wild dogs, Sabie antelopes, black rhinoceross, Nile crocodile, hippopotamus along the banks of the Rufiji River, Cape buffalo, hartebeest and eland. Picnic lunch and drinks will be served in the wilderness. After lunch you will get back to a game drive till evening at 6:00PM.

After breakfast at 7 AM, start your boat trip. Usually, the boat leaves the camp at 7:30 AM and returns at 9:00 AM enjoy two to three hours of the morning boat safari. It’s an ideal trip and you will enjoy the beautiful Scenery of the Rufiji River with many hippos, crocodiles and beautiful birdlife. The boat trip provide excellent opportunities to observe different bird species from fish eagles to king fishers. The sunrise can also be stunning from the boat. There is nothing quite like the serenity of the river while the sun dips below the horizon. The Rufiji is wide and large with several lakes branching off it for you to explore, gaining a unique view of the rivers largest inhabitants: crocodiles and hippos.
